Churches Hosting Opportunity

For a long time we’ve been talking about the vision of our partner church for helping students from villages go to secondary school. It’s encouraging to see this plan start to get rolling this winter as some churches from the US have donated funds to try a pilot project. The hosting centers will provide a place for 10-15 middle school age students to come and live with a pastor and his family in a main village that has a secondary school. They will also include a study room with books and other resources. The plan is to select Christian students from small villages to come and have each one bring a non-Christian neighbor to share the opportunity to study and experience for living in Christian community. This has a great potential for education, breaking down walls, and sharing the Gospel.

This month I had the chance to visit the evangelist in one of the villages where our partner church wants to build the first hosting centers. I was pleased to see the land the national church had already bought for this purpose. It is a nice piece of land a stone’s throw from the evangelist’s house and also from the local middle school compound. It was also re-assuring to talk more with the evangelist, who is an industrious self-starter building good relationships with the village religious leaders and building the mud-brick room they hold worship in himself.
