Not as well as we had hoped. Before Christmas we put a lot of effort into digging up part of our yard, through leftover construction material, concrete, and hardened soil, using the homeowner’s shovel that was only half a blade. We were told that if we just loosened the dirt, mixed in some manure, and watered it, the conditions should be great for growing things all year around. It’s been many months now, and we haven’t had anything grow yet. We tried a regenerating a root plant called cassava first, and then the easy but nutrient rich moringa trees, although neither would do anything. Thinking that maybe it was the dogs or children messing with the seeds/stalks, we put a small chicken wire fence up around the garden. Still nothing. Maybe the lizards are eating the seeds/stalks? Right now we’re starting some moringa trees inside and will put them out after they are a little stronger to see how they fair. Even our fruit trees are suffering right now with the little amount of water we’re able to give, but hopefully the whole garden experiment will start coming along soon on a small scale at least.
