Car Saga 3

It always amazes me how many tubes and wires are left
unconnected and yet it still runs.  Plus the radiator fan was
just direct wired to the battery, to make sure it really goes!

The saga of our old French car continues. It has been the single biggest time sink of the many things that we’ve had to get back up to speed since returning home in the middle of the rainy season. I’ve spent about 4 full days at various mechanics and “specialist” road-side operations to get it running fairly consistently again. The highlights of these efforts included buying gas in a clear thin plastic bag in order to first get the car moving, having the mechanics jump the dead battery using crescent wrenches as connectors between the batteries, and paying only $40 for them to spend four hours re-fashioning parts to make the driver-side window, hood, and gas cover close once again. After all the time, tuning up, and replacing of things, the car continues to sputter to a stop sometimes while driving. Getting the engine wet through all the puddles seemed to be a contributing factor, but we’re still trying to get to the root of the problem and figure out what modifications we can make so that the car we have can confidently get us across the paths we want to go on.
