A Women's Day

Two Sunday’s ago our church celebrated Women’s Sunday (I think it was intentionally placed in connection to International Women’s Day). The church responded especially well to the skits the women did and when one woman dressed up as a soldier during a song, which is interesting as female national guard personnel are seen pretty frequently around town. After the service our guard said La Maestra drank dancing because she participated in all the singing and dancing of the women’s choir. One of the songs was about Job, and ended with his quote that he came into the world naked and will go out of the world naked- so the women danced out of their matching outfits, only to reveal black skirts and white t-shirts underneath. Hopefully it was more meaningful than just the shock value. But it’s good to see women do all the parts of the worship service that usually only the male elders lead (except the sermon, which we don’t know if that is out of principle or that no women wanted to preach).



Another of the elements of the Women’s Sunday was to help raise funds for the church’s national women’s fellowship group conference, which is coming up next week. La Maestra is planning on attending, and has gotten her place on the big bush-taxi pick-up truck the women are renting to take them to a big city a ways away. Their group will do the songs they prepared for their Sunday and maybe some skits as they share fellowship, worship, and teaching times with women from the other 50+ churches or evangelism posts.
