The Way of CHE

Group members learning the 10 Seed Method at our training
put on by Medical Ambassadors International
Are we really helping those who are hurting by giving them things?  What's the difference between giving aid and fostering development?  I just spent a week in Indianapolis at a training in Community Health Evangelism (CHE), trying to find the sweet spot in that distinction.  The CHE method fosters important steps in the road to helping communities develop their own capacity for addressing their problems with solutions within their own reach.  The idea of the training is to learn CHE methods through CHE methods, so we spent a lot of time breaking into small groups, talking about the problems of our "village" with 10 beans to vote for the most serious or the most controllable or the biggest causes, etc.  We also spent a lot of time listening to people tell stories, practical and Bible, and watching demonstrations of simple CHE lessons on clean water or babies' health.  It was an interesting week, with many things that should be applicable to how we can help people increase the literacy in their community!
