Organized Activities

A Delight with the kids in the choir

It doesn't come as much of a surprise, but there are not organized activities for the youth or children here. The ways we used to fill our time are gone. There are not possibilities to run to the library, museum, park, fair, gymnastics, swimming classes, etc. What does this mean for people who grow up here? Many youth and children have a lot of extra time on their hands. Some children and youth have a lot of work and work very, very hard, but others can't find a job and are not forced to work and have a lot of extra time. The youth spend lots of time in community.  The only partly "organized" event we've seen so far is youth choir and children's choir practices on Saturday.

So what does all this mean for our family? Well, honestly we haven't figured that all out yet. There are things that we certainly miss our children participating in. (When trying to discern our calling to come one thing that weighed heavily on us was idea that our children wouldn't play in t-ball or rec. soccer leagues.) It does mean more family time and more imagination time. But there is one thing I know for sure, even though there are less organized activities, our parents rules carry down to another generation and our children will never be allowed to be bored.
