More Mourning

Wearing a smile as she mostly does even with all her sorrows.

We live in a country where there is a 9% infant mortality rate. We’re told that 20% of children here die before their fifth birthday. But I think I am still in disbelief. Yesterday El Padre was called to help my closest local friend get to the birthing clinic to deliver her baby. We waited for news and it seemed to be long in coming. We felt like the labor was too early, but since there was never any public announcement of the pregnancy, we were not sure. Finally, late in the day we heard the news that her baby girl had died. That is enough grief for any mother, but in addition she has buried her husband and three year old daughter all in the last 7 months. She has birthed 9 children and has 5 living. Lord, in Your mercy hear our prayers!
