Into the Dust

This is typically a very dusty time of the year. If you look on weather.com for our weather most days the forecast is simply for "dust" (I actually don't ever look up the weather here because it is pretty easy to guess what it will be!)  True to that fact, my flat surfaces are certainly carrying a lot of dust. It is windy outside. The sand is stirred up. We certainly don't have air tight windows. Our home has a small layer of dirt everywhere. During their first visit my parents said, "seems like living here you have to get used to being dirty."

BUT the dust this cool season has been SO much better than in past years. Typically there are a dozen days in this season that are so dusty it is hazy. These days we cannot see clearly across the room, the sun is darkened (like a cloudy day), and we are breathing this dust in all day long, as it comes right through our porous windows. We had one time this year lasting maybe two days that it became hazy, but it didn't seem to overtake the air. So it has been lovely to have cool nights, days in the 90s and so few hazy dusty days! So far this has been the best cool season on record!  Of course, the day I write this we begin to have higher winds and more haziness...
