Easy Teasy Maybe not so Easy

We are so grateful for the excellent medical care we have available in the US! Since we knew he had some possible issues, we purposely scheduled Easy Teasy's appointment with the pediatrician as quickly as possible upon arriving. From this appointment we found out that Easy Teasy has dysplasia and was recommended to a Orthopedic physician. We kind of took that in stride for 9 days until I had some time to research it and found out that it is a pretty big deal. His hip socket isn't properly formed and the two treatments are difficult.

After the appointment with the Orthopedic, we have found out that he has moderate to severe dysplasia. He will be placed in a 24 hour brace that he will supposedly be able to move around in. He will wear this brace up to two years as long as his hip socket is making progress to grow around his hip ball. If it isn't corrected and stops making progress he will have a pretty serious surgery with grafting and casts. So although the braces may be uncomfortable to wear in the arguably the hottest country in the world, we pray they will force the bone to grow correctly.

This past week Easy Teasy just began to crawl. Even though he will be able to move in the brace he will not be able to continue to crawl. It is a cruising brace, so hopefully he can still pick up how to walk with his legs out to the side! Babies are so adaptable, so we are hopeful.

Following up with the progress of this brace also will not be ideal because we will not be located in the US. A few months down the road we will travel five hours round trip to the biggest hospital to get an x-ray. Hopefully we will be able to send it to our Orthopedic, as she is willing to work with us from a distance as able! At some point he will outgrow his brace. We will order him the next size and hopefully be able to refit it to him ourselves from the Sahel.
