Rickshaw with Steel Horses

We were told that traffic in the Ville was absolutely crazy, with cars, semi-trucks, motorbikes, bikes, donkey carts, and pedestrians all doing whatever possible to weave through the crowded and bumpy streets. I haven’t observed the traffic being that bad, although in some of the areas where there are more stalls and stores and parked cars near the roadside it can get a little hairy, especially because several motorbikes will inevitably decide to go against traffic along the opposite side of the road! We were also a little in doubt of how we would get around in our new city because we heard almost all the taxis are motorbike taxis and there are a lot of roads that become impassable for non-4-wheel drive cars. 

 But we’re thankful that there’s a relatively new phenomenon here of the motorized “rickshaw” type taxis imported from India. These are like a motor-scooter with a frame around them that has a bench seat in the back which can seat three small adults reasonably. We heard that they were brought here to provide for better modesty for women so they don’t have to sit in so close proximity to a man on the back of a motorbike! We’ve really liked traveling in these because they are cheap, almost as mobile as a motorbike, but a lot safer for us and our kids to ride on all at the same time. We’re even thinking about buying one for our own personal driving!
