Food Cravings

Just last week we did try something exciting, to make tortilla
shells and then grind up some beans and have fun toppings!
Some days you get tired of being creative with the type of food you can get here. You just long for the convenience of being back in the States where you can get many different tasty foods and many different meals. They all seem so easy and different from what we have around here. We just had a conversation with some other missionaries here about the lack of snack food, and got some somewhat practical ideas, including popping corn and shakes from ice & powdered milk …

My food craving confession prompts two totally different strains of thought for me: I know there are definitely times you stand in front of your refrigerator in the States and wish you had something different and tasty to eat there too. But #2: it’s also amazing to think about all the teenagers here who don’t have nearly the access to food we do. It appears that most will get a fair amount of rice and sauce at meal times- but they don’t have a fridge or cabinets full of things to snack on at other times of day. They do have little corner stands that will sell cheap candy or a slice of coconut or maybe dried meat jerky, but those things are also eaten in pretty small serving sizes considering the black holes that we know can be in growing kids stomachs.
