Landed

It’s the least developed country in the world and in some ways it really shows.  We arrived safely in the capital about a week ago and have started settling in to the church guest house where we will stay for another two weeks.  The capital feels a lot smaller and less developed than I expected, but it has the basics of what we want like ATMs, several grocery stores with French food available, and taxis that can get you around.  Honesty, it is about what I expected the ‘Ville, the city we’ll be living in, to be like.  But I’m told the ‘Ville will be similar, just crammed into a smaller space with more motorcycles than cars and less western food.

As far as adjusting goes, we’re doing well.  It seems to be the high point of the rainy season, so we’re having some heavy rain every few days with lower temperatures and lots of puddles.  The kids are loving playing in the sand and getting lots of mosquito bites despite our efforts to keep long clothes and repellent on them.  The heat isn’t so bad so far, it’s more the humidity is a bit oppressive.  We’re happy to have some wifi internet access, although already finding that it can easily be out of service for a whole day at a time!
