Not Praying for Comfort

The mother-in-law of our guard beams as she holds her grand-baby,
when we went to visit her village recently.  Her other grandson holds
a duck she gave him as a gift, as everyone else chuckles.
We heard a humbling story about one of our sisters in the eastern part of our country this week, relating to the attacks and riots just over a year ago. This Christian woman, a mother of 7, had to flee and run from the rioters. As she left her house she felt like today would be the day she would die for Christ's name and she felt peace and completely prepared to do so. But as she was fleeing, like any mother, she was concerned for her children. Her concern turned her to pray for them. But the prayer on her heart for her children did not sound as I imagine mine would. Instead of praying to bring her children to safety, the words from her heart were for God to strengthen her children so they too would be able to stay strong in the faith of Christ in the face of death where ever they were.  We thank God that no Christians were killed during these events but instead we are able to be encouraged in many ways through how Christians responded.
